Welkin Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 July 2026

Welkin (“the app”) is a weather app. We designed it to be private by default. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.

Information we collect

None. Welkin has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, and no advertising or tracking software. We do not collect, store, sell, or share any personal information about you.

Location

If you allow it, Welkin uses your device’s location only to determine which forecast to show you. Your coordinates are used on your device to request weather data and are not stored by us or linked to your identity. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; you can also search for a city manually instead.

Background location. If — and only if — you turn on “Follow my location” for alerts, Welkin watches for significant changes in your location (roughly every 500 metres, using the low-power location radio) so that rain and haze alerts match the area you are actually in. This works while the app is closed. It is off by default, requires “Always” location permission that you grant explicitly, and stops the moment you turn the setting off. Your coordinates are still only ever used to fetch a forecast, and are never stored by us or shared with anyone beyond the weather services below.

Weather data

Forecast, air-quality, and location-name data are provided by Open-Meteo. Singapore’s two-hour area nowcast is provided by the National Environment Agency (NEA) via data.gov.sg. To fetch your forecast, the app sends the relevant coordinates (either your current location or a city you searched) to these services. Please see their own terms for how they handle requests. Welkin sends no other data.

Children

Welkin does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
